A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, so that something can be remembered between page loads. Local storage does a similar job with a different mechanism: it stays on your device and, unlike a cookie, isn't attached to requests sent over the network.

Neither is ever sent to us or to anyone else. Blocking them costs you the shortlist between visits and nothing else.
Google's: advertising cookies
This site carries ads through Google AdSense. Google and its advertising
partners set cookies and read similar identifiers through your browser in
order to serve ads, cap how often you see the same one, measure performance
and detect fraud. Typical examples include Google's __gads and
__gpi cookies and the IDE and DSID
cookies used by Google's ad platforms. The exact set varies by region,
consent status and which partners take part in a given auction, so no
publisher can give you a complete, permanently accurate list.
We can't read those cookies and we can't delete them for you. What we can do is tell you exactly where the switches are.
Turning the advertising off
- Personalised ads. Go to Google Ads Settings and turn personalisation off. Ads keep appearing; they stop being based on your browsing.
- Industry-wide opt-outs. aboutads.info/choices (US), optout.networkadvertising.org (US), and youronlinechoices.eu (Europe) let you opt out of many vendors at once.
- Your consent choices. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the consent message shown on your first visit controls what advertising partners may do. You can reopen it and change your answer at any time.
- Browser settings. Every major browser can block third-party cookies outright, clear them on exit, or block them per site. Look for Privacy in your browser's settings. Blocking third-party cookies does not break this site.
If you block everything
The name generator works with all cookies disabled. The only casualty is your saved shortlist, which relies on local storage — and if that's blocked too, the shortlist simply lasts until you close the tab.
