Privacy policy

The short version: we don't ask who you are, your shortlist never leaves your browser, and the advertising is Google's, with cookies you can turn off.

Last updated 27 July 2026

petnamegenerator.org is published by Taurus Alternative Strategies, LLC, a New York limited liability company, which is the data controller for the purposes of this policy. This policy explains how we handle information when you visit. It applies to this website only, and not to any site we link to.

In one paragraph

You don't need an account and we don't ask for your name, email or anything else to use the name generator. The names you save are stored in your own browser and are never sent to us. Our host keeps standard server logs. The site carries advertising from Google, which uses cookies and similar technology — that's the only part of this site that tracks anything, and you can switch personalised ads off. If you write to us, we keep your message so we can reply.

What we collect

Nothing that identifies you personally, simply from browsing. There are no accounts, no logins, no newsletter, and no profile of you.

Server logs. The site is hosted on Netlify. Like every web host, Netlify automatically records technical details of requests: IP address, the page requested, the date and time, the referring page, and browser and device details sent by your browser. These logs exist to keep the site running, diagnose faults and defend against abuse. We do not use them to build a profile of you, and we do not combine them with anything else. Netlify's own handling of that data is covered by its privacy policy, which you can read at netlify.com/privacy.

Information from advertising. Our advertising partners collect information themselves through your browser. That's covered in advertising below.

Storage on your device

We set no first-party cookies of our own. Instead the site uses your browser's local storage — a small amount of space on your own device that only this site can read, and which is never transmitted anywhere. Two items are kept there:

ItemWhat it holdsWhy
png:shortlist The names you saved with the heart button So your shortlist survives a refresh or a closed tab
png:cookie-notice A single flag recording that you dismissed the cookie bar So it doesn't reappear on every page

Both stay on your device until you clear your browser's site data. Clearing it removes your shortlist permanently — we have no copy, because it was never sent to us. If your browser blocks local storage, the site falls back to holding the shortlist in memory for the session only, and everything else works normally.

If you contact us

If you use the contact form, the name, email address, topic and message you type are submitted through Netlify Forms and delivered to us. We use them for one thing: replying to you, and acting on your message if it's a correction or a bug report. We don't add you to any mailing list and we don't pass your details to anyone else.

If you'd rather not use the form, email works just as well: hello@petnamegenerator.org.

Advertising and Google AdSense

This site is free and is paid for by advertising. We use Google AdSense to serve those ads. The following is how that works, in the terms Google requires publishers to disclose:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You will still see ads; they simply won't be tailored to you.
  • You can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices, optout.networkadvertising.org, or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.

Google and its ad partners may collect information such as your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you view on this site, and identifiers stored in cookies or similar technologies, in order to select and measure ads. Details of how Google uses that data are set out in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and in Google's advertising technologies notice. We have no access to the cookies our advertising partners set, and we cannot read them.

Consent in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland. If you're in a region where consent is required before personalised advertising cookies can be used, you'll be shown a consent message from a Google-certified consent management platform before those cookies are set. Your choices there control what the advertising partners are allowed to do, and you can change them at any time through that message.

The bar shown at the bottom of the page on your first visit is an informational notice about the above; it isn't itself a consent mechanism.

Analytics

We do not run Google Analytics or any similar script-based analytics on this site. Whatever traffic reporting we look at is derived from server logs, which are aggregate and not tied to an identified person.

For visitors in the UK and the EEA, our legal bases under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR are:

  • Legitimate interests — keeping the site available, secure and working (server logs), and replying to messages you choose to send us.
  • Consent — for advertising and similar cookies where consent is required. You give or withhold it through the consent message, and you can withdraw it at any time.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how it's used, to have it transferred to another service, and to withdraw consent you previously gave.

In practice, the only personal data we hold that's tied to you is whatever you sent us in a message. If you'd like that deleted, email hello@petnamegenerator.org from the address you wrote from and say so; it will be removed. For data held by Google in connection with advertising, use the Google links in the advertising section — that data sits with Google, not with us.

If you're in the UK or the EEA and you're unhappy with how we've handled something, you can complain to your national data protection authority. In the UK that's the Information Commissioner's Office.

US state privacy rights

We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not knowingly disclose the personal information of anyone under 16 for advertising purposes. However, under California's CPRA and similar laws in other US states, the use of advertising cookies to show you personalised ads across different sites may count as “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.

To opt out of that, use Google Ads Settings or the industry opt-out tools linked above. Where your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, our advertising partners' handling of that signal is described in their own policies. You may also have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, to request correction, and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights — write to us and we'll action what we can.

Children

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it. Advertising served on this site is configured for a general audience rather than for child-directed content.

How long anything is kept

  • Server logs — kept by our host for a short operational period and then discarded.
  • Contact messages — kept while the conversation is live and for a reasonable period afterwards, then deleted. Ask sooner and we'll delete sooner.
  • Local storage on your device — until you clear it. We can't reach it.

International transfers

Our host and our advertising partners operate globally, so information described here may be processed on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Those providers rely on their own safeguards for such transfers, including standard contractual clauses where applicable.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. It's a static site with no database of user accounts, which removes most of the ways a site like this could leak anything about you. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but the amount of your data we hold is deliberately close to zero.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date at the top. Material changes to how advertising works on the site will be reflected here before or as they take effect.
